“If FPL Is Truly the Gold Standard, Then Help Us Write the Rules”

FPL and Kevin Powers have repeatedly told the community that their data center is the “cream of the crop” — the latest and greatest technology with nothing to worry about.

If that is truly the case, then we have a simple and constructive proposal:

Sit down with us at the table and help the Village write the new Hyper-Scale Data Center Zoning Overlay District that SB 484 now gives us the clear authority to create.

Use your own project as the baseline. Help us define strong, measurable standards for water use, heat-island mitigation, noise, traffic, emergency power generation, and environmental safeguards — with real, enforceable penalties if those standards are not met.

If your facility really is the gold standard, then you should have no problem helping us raise the bar for every data center that follows. That is how you prove you are the best — by helping the community protect itself while still allowing responsible development.

We are not against data centers. We are against hyper-scale data centers being placed in our front yards without the proper safeguards in place.

The law now gives the Village the tools. All we are asking for is the leadership and good-faith participation to use them correctly.

FPL and the project proponents have a perfect opportunity right now to turn their “gold standard” claim into action. We invite them to the table.
